One part Raymond Chandler and two parts Hunter Thompson, Richter's atmospheric novel introduces us to an expatriate gringo beach bum who is in Mexico illegally, reads Thoreau and Emerson, and is about a peso away from flat broke. Eventually he is hired by a flashy and obnoxious resident of the American section of Puerto Vallarta, who thinks his live-in girl friend is cheating on him and wants her followed.
