Summary, etc. Omar Nelson Bradley was a senior U.S. Army field commander in North Africa and Europe during World War II, and a General of the Army in the United States Army. He was the last surviving five-star commissioned officer of the United States and the first general to be selected Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.<br/><br/>Omar N. Bradley served on active duty with the United States Army from 1915-1953.<br/><br/>Omar Bradley died on April 8, 1981 in New York City of a cardiac arrhythmia. He is buried at Arlington National Cemetery, Virginia.
